July 5/10 Ride Over the Rainbow! in the mountains near Merritt was once again a record-setting ride, with over 80 riders in the 3 distances of 100, 50 and 25 mile rides. The area has been hard hit by logging due to pine-beetle killed trees, but it still has a wonderful range of challenging trails. This was the 21st consecutive running of ROTR and ride organizers Barbara Holmes-Balmer and Terre O’Brennan have announced it will be their last year to host the event. Hopefully someone will step up to take over because the site and trails are ready to go.

Jun 14/10 Golden Ears Endurance Ride -- always a classic in an amazing old growth forest park. This year was no exception as Kim tirelessly looked after every possible detail from well-marked trails, to superb volunteers and vets. Gary’s seafood feast is always a highlight and a treat for tired riders (I think some people make a point of attending this ride just for the dinner!). While Kim is passing the reins to others after many years of putting on the ride, I’m sure she’ll be nearby to help. Everyone is grateful that Brian Malkoske has stepped up to take over in 2011. Golden Ears ride will go on!

May 25/10 Long Lake Alberta FEI Ride: The 100 mile ride had 10 entries and 4 completions, Terre & Koszaar, Kathy Irvine & Nightwind Savanna, Ariel McLeod & Zorro, and Gail Jewel & Doc (Jolly Holiday). The start was at 5:00, and Terre finished at 8:15, 25 minutes ahead of CoC time. Both Kath and Ariel made the time, too. And Gail made it in before dark, to everyone's relief. The Saturday had a 50 and a 25, and the Sunday had a 25, 50, 75, and 100. The ride trails suffered badly from the heavy rain Friday night. Because of the poor weather, and cold wind, Terrehad put Kos in the trailer, then let him out when the rain backed off, then had to put him in the trailer again during the night. So we were hoping that the trails would stand up. Nope. MORE...

May 24/10 ROCK CREEK! What a fantastic ride Louise and Lynn put on this time! The trails were perfect, beautiful, well-marked, good footing, lots of good going; volunteers were where they were needed and so helpful. Good vetting, potluck, nice prizes, super campsite, and even the weather co-operated and was nice and cool, no rain.
The amount of work that has gone into those trails is immense and everyone appreciated the efforts Del, Lynn, Chris, Louise, Ross, and others put into this, with the support of so many local folks.
Around 60 riders took part in the ride, with I believe 33 in the 30, 26 in the 50, and a handful in the fun ride. Only 1 pull in the 50, 3 in the 30 - no treatments. Dennis Summers won the 50, and Murray took BC and HVS. Diana Gilbreath won the 30, Barbara & Shim (22 yrs young) got HVS. Everyone was raving about the trails and the overall high quality of the ride. Thanks so much you guys, great start to the BC ride season! Results HERE

Nov 15/09 The AGM in Merritt was one of the most well attended meetings we’ve ever had with over 40 participants. The conference room at the BW Nicola was just the right size, and the service was very good. After a full day of meetings, everyone relaxed to an informative talk about horse behaviour from Dr. Michael Peterson followed by an amazing slide and video show from our Tevis riders and crew. The event was capped off with a delicious banquet and awards presentation. Safe to say Lori Bewza was the big winner of the evening taking home Grand Champion, High Mileage BC, a Top 5 overall, and Partners Award, all with Black Majik. All Award winners HERE. See the Contacts to find out who has been elected to the BOD!

Sept 29/09 Great story from the Endurance Canada site: Thank you, Terry, Don and Brian! Moulton Creek was a HUGE success – what a team you are – what a start to the season! The ride was so well organized, down to the smallest detail. We know it is the last thing on your mind today but we certainly hope you will put on another ride in the near future! The ride site is phenomenal – the trail possibilities endless - perfect for a ‘national/international’ event! All the veterinarians were great; the volunteers helped out doing whatever, wherever, whenever needed – and the food was unbelievable! Personally, we did not see the trail but by all accounts it was amazing. It will be a long time before the ‘view’ from ride camp will be forgotten; how lucky you are to have found such a beautiful property!
And THANKS AGAIN for allowing FEI to be part of this experience. It is more important than ever to promote and support this type of event to develop and allow the horses and riders interested in the international experience a way to qualify to compete at Championship events and achieve their full potential. So...thanks for your kindness, patience and hospitality.
Without the generosity of ERABC, the FEI 1* held at Moulton Creek would NOT have been possible. On behalf of the FEI riders and the OC, we want to sincerely thank ERABC and its members for financially supporting this competition, assisting those riders pursuing international goals. With the World Equestrian Games being held in Kentucky next year, it has created new interest in ‘riding for Canada’, and you can be sure that some of the BC riders will be on the Team! We wish them the very best of luck!
Congratulations to all the riders on this first ride of the year in BC!

Ruth Carlson, Chair, FEI Endurance Committee

Aug 1/09 Tevis Cup - Kim Hofmarks, Danny Grant, Karen Ellis, and former ERABC member now living in Arizona Kevin Myers rode what is reputed the most difficult 100 mile endurance ride in the world in California today. Kim and Danny completed 8 minutes shy of the maximum 24 hrs allowed, while Kevin finished a couple of hours earlier. Unfortunately Karen’s horse lost a shoe sometime prior to the final hold just 6 miles from the finish causing Elektra to trot out lame, and she was unable to complete. We are proud of all of these riders and their fantastic horses!
